Frequently asked

What is Jyutping?

Jyutping (粵拼) is the standard romanisation system for Cantonese, published by the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong. Each syllable is written with letters plus a tone number 1–6 (for example 廣 = gwong2). JyutTyper teaches you to type it quickly and accurately.

Does it work offline?

Yes — completely. There is no login and no internet requirement. Every drill, tone set and sentence, plus your progress and stats, works with no signal.

How do the drills work?

Each lesson shows a Cantonese character and you type its Jyutping. You get immediate correct/wrong feedback, and at the end of a set you see your words-per-minute and accuracy. There are per-key initial/final drills, tone-number practice, and everyday sentences.

How is words-per-minute (WPM) measured?

WPM is the number of drill items you complete per minute across a set. Your best WPM, current streak and accuracy history are shown on the Progress screen.

Where is my progress stored? Can I reset it?

Entirely on your device — nothing is uploaded to any server (see our Privacy Policy). You can clear everything from Settings → Reset progress at any time.

Is JyutTyper a keyboard I can type with in other apps?

Not in this version — JyutTyper is a practice and training app that builds your Jyutping typing speed. You then use that skill with any Cantonese/Jyutping input method on your device.
