CamProbe · ONVIF & RTSP camera diagnostics

Support

Discover ONVIF cameras, resolve their RTSP streams, test connections and read live stream health — on site, from your phone. No account, no ads, all local.

Need help? Email marcus@lhkmarcus.com and we'll get back to you. Please include your camera make/model, your device model and OS version, and the RTSP URL you are using (with the password removed).

Frequently asked

Discovery doesn't find my camera

Make sure your phone and the camera are on the same WiFi network and subnet — a phone on guest WiFi usually can't see the wired camera LAN. On iOS, the first time you scan you must allow Local Network access when prompted, or discovery finds nothing. Note that some cameras ship with ONVIF disabled or on a non-standard port; if the camera never replies to discovery, add it manually by IP and use the brand RTSP path or the "Resolve via ONVIF" button.

The stream won't play (black screen or error)

Work through it in order: (1) run Test RTSP port — if the port is closed, the phone can't reach the camera at all (wrong IP/subnet, firewall, or camera off). (2) If the port is open but video fails, it's usually wrong credentials or the wrong stream path — try the sub-stream, or use ONVIF to fetch the exact URL. (3) Some cameras only allow a limited number of simultaneous streams; close other viewers/NVR connections and retry.

Where do I find my camera's RTSP URL?

Two ways: use ONVIF discovery / Resolve via ONVIF to have the camera hand you its exact stream URI, or open the RTSP path library and pick your brand's default path (Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Reolink, Amcrest, Uniview, Hanwha, TP-Link, Foscam, or generic ONVIF), then fill in your camera's IP, port 554, and credentials. Models vary — when in doubt, ONVIF returns the authoritative URI.

Which cameras and codecs are supported?

CamProbe streams over RTSP (TCP) using VLC, so it plays the H.264 and H.265 streams used by the vast majority of ONVIF / IP cameras and NVRs. Discovery uses the standard ONVIF Profile S WS-Discovery mechanism. Cameras that are ONVIF-conformant and expose an RTSP stream will work.

Can I try the app without a camera?

Yes — open the built-in Demo Camera. It appears in your saved cameras (and in discovery results), and plays a bundled sample feed so you can try the whole flow — discovery, RTSP resolution, the port test, the viewer, and the diagnostics panel — with no hardware at all.

Are you affiliated with Hikvision / Dahua / Axis / etc.?

No. CamProbe is an independent diagnostic tool. Brand names appear only to identify each manufacturer's default RTSP stream paths; the app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any camera manufacturer.

Does the app send my data anywhere?

No. The only network traffic is the direct connection between your phone and cameras on your own local network; nothing is uploaded and there are no accounts or analytics (see our Privacy Policy).
